Mass Effect 2 Legion: How to Get the Geth Companion & Gain Their Loyalty

How to get Legion in Mass Effect 2 is just the start. You have to win Legion's loyalty and keep them alive as well.

Recruiting all of the Mass Effect characters gives you the best chance of surviving in the trilogy’s two toughest moments, but one of the trickiest to deal with is Mass Effect 2 Legion. It’s not just how to find Legion, though, since they’re part of Mass Effect 2’s penultimate mission. It’s the timing.

Finding Legion in Mass Effect 2 and securing their loyalty before initiating the Omega Relay sequence can make a significant difference in your crew surviving the suicide mission and how much Effective Military Strength you amass in Mass Effect 3. Here’s how to get Legion in ME2 and when you should complete their loyalty mission.

How to Get Legion in Mass Effect 2

You won’t come across Legion until Mass Effect 2’s last mission before the suicide mission. Legion is on board the derelict Reaper and helps Shepard deal with the threats there before the crew locates the IFF and enters the relay.

However, there are some things to keep in mind before exploring the derelict Reaper. After the mission ends, you’ll only have time to take on one more quest before you have to enter the Relay (if you don’t, then your crew starts dying).

Securing the crew’s loyalty before this point gives everyone a better chance of staying alive during the suicide mission, which is required for seeing Mass Effect 2’s good ending. Make sure you do everyone else’s loyalty mission before exploring the derelict Reaper.

During Tali’s mission, you should choose not to present evidence of her father’s work.

Mass Effect 2 Legion Loyalty Mission and Tali Confrontation

Once you arrive back on the Normandy with Legion and go through some conversations, you’ll be prompted to start the Legion loyalty mission. What you choose during the Legion loyalty mission affects your EMS in Mass Effect 3, so you’ll want to rewrite the heretics during the mission and make peace with them and the Geth in ME3.

After you finish Legion’s mission, and if you did the right thing in Tali’s, you’ll arrive back on the Normandy to find a conflict between Legion and Tali.

Legion and Tali Confrontation

There are a few ways to handle the Tali and Legion confrontation. The first is if your Paragon or Renegade percentage is high enough (80% for either), which lets you calm them both down and avoid losing anyone’s loyalty.

If not, you can actually side with Tali, then approach Legion and tell them you lied to keep Tali happy. That restores Legion’s confidence in you without damaging Tali’s relationship.

If you side with Legion during the confrontation, however, there’s no way to restore Tali’s loyalty.

As for the suicide mission itself, you can use Legion as the technical specialist in phase one. That’s all they’re suited for, though, and they might die if put in another capacity.
